Be specific

Name three concrete gifts from the day: a voice, a meal, light on a wall, work completed, strength borrowed, or help received. Precision keeps gratitude from becoming a slogan.

Do not erase pain

Gratitude can stand beside lament. “This hurt, and this mercy also arrived” is more truthful than forcing brightness over a wound.

Let thanks move outward

Tell one person what their action meant. Protect or share one gift you received. Thanksgiving matures when it becomes generosity.
