A plain-language reading method
A guide for understanding a new technology without mistaking headlines, marketing, or fear for evidence.
Name the actual system
Replace the broad label with a concrete description. “AI” may mean a writing assistant, a hiring score, a medical image model, or a recommendation feed. Each has different data, limits, and consequences.
Separate claim from evidence
Write down what the maker promises, what independent testing shows, and what remains unknown. A demonstration proves possibility under selected conditions; it does not prove reliability everywhere.
Follow the consequence
Ask who gains time or power, who contributes data or labor, who can be harmed by error, and whether the affected person can appeal. The clearest insight often appears at the edge of the system.
